Ascend Learning Names Former Care.com Exec to GM, Healthcare Ventures
Ascend Learning, a leading provider of online educational content, software, and analytics serving students, educational institutions, and employers, has appointed Scott Healy to General Manager, Healthcare Ventures.
Scott brings to Ascend Learning more than twenty-five years of experience. His expertise includes general management, marketing, business development, and product management. He is an entrepreneurial leader with a passion for building and scaling innovative businesses. These businesses often disrupt established industries. Scott has been an executive at five Boston-area venture-backed companies. There was one IPO and four exits via acquisition.
Most recently, Scott served as EVP & General Manager – Growth Businesses for Care.com. Scott helped build Care.com, the world’s largest online marketplace for care services, from shortly after the company’s founding through its January 2014 IPO. He played a significant role in Care.com’s consumer marketplace business in the U.S. He has also led the company’s international expansion. This included diversification into new B2B lines of business, both organically and through acquisition.
He launched the company’s B2B offerings, including Care@Work (formerly Workplace Solutions) in 2011. In addition to Care.com, Scott has been an entrepreneur in residence at venture capital firm Matrix Partners. He has held senior leadership roles at licensed product manufacturer OYO Sports (restructuring and sale). Other roles include online purchasing marketplace BuyerZone (acquired by Reed Elsevier), digital marketing services provider e-Dialog (acquired by GSI Commerce, then eBay), and customer analytics software company DataSage (acquired by Vignette, now part of OpenText). Earlier in his career, Scott worked as a brand manager at Unilever. He also worked as a consultant at strategy consulting firm Monitor Group.
Scott is active in youth sports and advising entrepreneurs and early stage companies. He holds a B.A. with Honors from Williams College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
