Recent Executive Search Insights in 2022


ON Partners executive search consultants released thought leadership insights across the first half of 2022 including roles in high demand, shifts made in the search for executive talent, and new talent strategies amid global labor shortages and a volatile market.

Operating Partner Shifts

While ON Partners continues to place Operating Partners in the CEO role, our consultants see demand growing for executives with active, functional experience, such as GTM, operations, IT, and finance to take on OP roles to strengthen and elevate these key functions across the portfolio.

According to Tindall Hein, partner at ON who has previously published insights on the OP role, “Last year, ‘OP 1.0’ was more of a generalist role, in which PE firms brought in a CEO who could help in certain areas. We’re now seeing more of specialist OP, with specific functional or industry expertise, such as a CIO, CRO or COO.”

Amid ongoing labor shortages around the world, Hunt Scanlon releases insights to help business leaders rethink strategies for finding the right talent. “Candidates still have leverage in this war for talent, but a growing wave of layoffs has the potential to turn that tide quickly,” Mooney said. “The key will be for companies to remain nimble, be transparent, and attempt to communicate a philosophy that matches the current market conditions. Many companies appear to be pushed into a reactionary mode which is not well received by current or potential employees.”
