BAY AREA TECH HIRING HEATS UP – Q3 2018 DIGITAL JOBS INDEX

BAY AREA OUTPACES NEW YORK AND BOSTON, ACCORDING TO LATEST REPORT FROM ON PARTNERS

CLEVELAND, OH – November 15, 2018 – ON Partners, the results-driven retained executive search firm, today announced the results of its Digital Jobs Index for the third quarter of 2018. While hiring cooled slightly in Boston and New York over the last quarter, the Bay Area showed a marked improvement in hiring.

After a somewhat sluggish start to the year, hiring in the Bay Area has consistently been heating up during 2018. Q3 was a very strong quarter for the region, which saw digital headcount increase by 4.5% to approximately 233,000 employees. New York City finished the quarter with almost 77,000 digital employees and a gain of 3.0%, while Boston ended with close to 64,000 digital employees and a 1.9% increase.

While a few companies trimmed their staffs in Q3, headcount increases were otherwise strong across the board. The largest gains came from stalwarts such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple and Wayfair. Other notable headcount increases in each city included Airbnb, Slack and Credit Karma in the Bay Area; Oscar Health, Lyft and Rent The Runway in New York; and Circle, Salsify and Fuze in Boston.

“Tech hiring remains remarkably strong, though we’ve seen a few large companies trimming their headcounts during the year,” noted John Barrett, partner at ON Partners. “Oracle, IBM, GE Digital, Oath, Akamai, Pandora and Kaspersky in particular have been reducing their number of employees.”
